Friends of Trafalgar

Welcome to the Friends of Trafalgar School

The ‘Friends of Trafalgar School’ (FTS) is made up of a group of parents and teachers who donate their time to help organise and run fundraising events throughout the year. The monies raised help support the school and pay for the ‘extras’, ensuring that our children get the best possible start in their education.

During the school year (2009/2010), the FTS will have organised and run a number of events including: two Quiz Nights for parents; the Children’s Christmas Market; Recycling Week in February; Easter Fun Day in March and the Summer Fete in June. Each year we also produce tea towels, displaying each child’s self-portrait, and organise a family photo session with Simon Hooley Photography (simonhooleyphotopgraphy.co.uk). The ongoing recycling of printer cartridges and mobile phones also generates a small, but regular income as does the sale of second-hand school uniform.

Over the last few years, the monies raised have been used to purchase the wooden play structure and playhouse in the ‘outdoor classroom’ predominantly used by Reception and Year 1 children; new computers for the classrooms; books for both the library and the reading scheme; digital cameras for each class; the bike/scooter shelter and the very popular ‘laptop bus’ which moves between the classrooms.

In addition, each year the FTS welcomes the new children in Reception with a Trafalgar book bag and wishes the Year 2 children farewell with a ‘Leavers’ Bear’ at the end of the summer term. At Christmas, each classroom is presented with a gift of their choice for the whole class to enjoy and Christmas crackers are supplied for the enjoyment of the children during their festive lunch.

The FTS is extremely grateful to all parents who support them, either by donating gifts and prizes, helping to run the events or simply taking part on the day. If you feel that you would like to get more involved, then you are very welcome to join the FTS. We are always looking for new members and you can join at any time during the year. The FTS meet up at the school about twice a term for a couple of hours in the evening. If you would like more details, please contact the School Office. We look forward to hearing from you!
